Winter Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury Wedding | Jamie + Sam

Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury | Shrewsbury, NJ
Jamie and Sam’s winter wedding at Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury was filled with personal details, family moments, and an especially beautiful ceremony and reception design.
Winter weddings can make portrait locations a little more important, and Shadowbrook gave us plenty of options throughout the property. We took advantage of the clean winter light outside for portraits before moving back indoors for their Jewish ceremony and ballroom reception.
Winter Wedding Portraits at Shadowbrook
Jamie began the day getting ready with her bridesmaids inside Shadowbrook. She incorporated a custom newlywed newspaper into some of her getting-ready photographs, while Sam’s details included custom-engraved cufflinks from Jamie.
Before seeing Sam, Jamie shared a first look with her dad. She had a custom embroidered handkerchief waiting for him, which ended up being particularly useful once the tears started!
Jamie and Sam then had their own first look before we headed outside for portraits. The winter light was beautiful and soft, and Jamie added a fur shawl to her look while we photographed around the property.
One of the advantages of a Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury wedding is having both indoor and outdoor portrait options in one place. That was especially useful in December, when we could work outside while the light was beautiful without needing to depend on the weather for the entire portrait portion of the day.
Their wedding party braved the cold with us for a few photographs outside as well, with Jamie’s bridesmaids in different metallic shades of silver.
A Jewish Wedding Ceremony
Jamie and Sam held their Jewish wedding ceremony inside Shadowbrook beneath a white floral chuppah. A mirrored aisle lined with white rose petals led into the ceremony space, with candlelight throughout the room.
Having dated since high school, Jamie and Sam’s families already shared so much history. Their ceremony reflected that, with plenty of emotional reactions from both the couple and the people surrounding them.
Photographically, I loved the contrast between this part of the day and the portraits we had created outside. The winter grounds gave us clean, neutral portraits earlier in the afternoon, while the florals, mirrored aisle, and candlelight gave the ceremony photographs an entirely different feeling.
A Ballroom Reception at Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury
After the ceremony, the celebration moved into the ballroom at Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury. White florals and candlelight continued throughout the reception design, from the centerpieces and sweetheart table to the wedding cake.
Later in the evening, Jamie changed into a sparkling fringe dress before she and Sam made another entrance into the ballroom. A live band kept the dance floor full for the rest of the night, giving us plenty of reception photographs to finish their gallery.
Shadowbrook is a venue that works particularly well for a wedding with a lot happening in one place. We were able to photograph getting ready, first looks, outdoor portraits, their ceremony, and the reception without leaving the property, while still creating noticeably different photographs throughout each part of the day.
