Fordham University Winter Proposal | Anastasia + Steven

What a sweet way to end 2023 and kick off 2024! I had the pleasure of capturing Steven’s surprise proposal to Anastasia on New Year’s Eve at my favorite place, my alma mater, Fordham University, in the Bronx, New York. 

Anastasia’s younger sister, Leanna, reached out to me at the recommendation of a friend and former student of mine! Steven and I hopped on a call a few weeks later to discuss his plan. Since school was closed for Christmas break, getting onto campus for this special surprise took careful planning with the University. 

The Proposal

After almost ten years together, Steven told me that Anastasia had an idea it was coming but wasn’t sure when. He fibbed and told her he had tickets to the annual Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden across the street from Fordham. However, when they arrived, he said he had to stop on campus for a cup of coffee. Though she had her suspicions, Anastasia believed him and went along for the walk on campus. Together, they walked to the fountain, their favorite place on campus, and Steven got down on one knee and proposed! Even though they did not pick out the ring together, Anastasia says it was everything she imagined. She told Steven the stone and style she wanted, and he successfully picked out the ring of her dreams!

After Steven popped the question, they headed back to Anastasia’s house in Brooklyn to pop champagne with their families.

Their Love Story

I was curious to learn more about how these two got together, so after they officially announced their engagement, I reached out to get a few more details and hear their love story!

Anastasia and Steven both attended Fordham University and met during syllabus week. Their older brothers were friends and introduced them.

Over the years, they developed close friendships with each other’s friends. Their friends agree that Steven and Anastasia complement one another perfectly – Steven is an extrovert, and Anastasia is an introvert. Their friends love hanging out together and can’t wait to celebrate this next chapter!

As much as they love exploring new places together, they also love to do absolutely nothing together! Their favorite date nights can range from fun restaurant spots in the village to ordering takeout at home while watching their favorite movies.

When I asked what they love most about each other, Steven said, “We both think we are the perfect complement to each other’s personalities. I am able to bring her out of her shell, and she is able to keep me well-grounded. I love how caring and personable Anastasia is. She is always there to listen to me on my good and bad days.” Anastasia shared, “I love Steven’s heart. He is always so kind and thoughtful and always makes life fun and exciting, even in its dullest moments. He would do anything for his family and friends, and that is one of his most admirable qualities.”

A Destination Wedding in Greece

Regarding their wedding planning aspirations, Anastasia and Steven plan to get married in Greece! They are looking forward to a destination wedding with their family and friends. It is one of their favorite summer vacation spots, and they are excited to make more memories there.

Steven and Anastasia were the sweetest couple! I am so happy I had the opportunity to meet and capture this memory for them.
